Disney's new "Alice in Wonderland"

Visiting Mom in Ormond Beach, Florida, and the number of new films that are "Mom-worthy" is slim down here.  I took her to see Alice in Wonderland, which is a special story for her because, as she told me on our way to the theater, the first book she ever owned as a child was Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.  In the event, she said the story seemed different up on the screen, but both of us found that it certainly held our attention.

We were not seeing the 3-D version, which was no longer available at the Regal Cinema in Ormond Beach.  I thought it was reasonably inventive, and Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter was like type-casting, it was so perfect.  The special effects are fine, the story works reasonably well, although the prelude and postlude are not nearly as interesting as Alice's lengthy dream.  Maybe someday an enterprising filmmaker will just do a short film of the Mad Hatter's Tea Party using David Del Tredici's inspired music of "Final Alice."  Now, that would be a treat!
