Knight and Day - Cruise and Diaz - Fantastic Locations

The NY Times trashed this one in the morning paper, but I had to take my Mom out to the movies and it seemed like the least objectionable thing playing in Ormond Beach, Florida.  And we had a good time, although the plot went by fast enough that she had a bit of trouble following it.  Tom Cruise is looking very good in his 40s, Cameron Diaz does a decent job on the dizzy blonde role, Paul Dano is almost unrecognizable as the mad scientist kid whose developed the perpetual battery -- well, almost -- and Peter Sarsgaard makes a good slightly smirking villain.  It's fast, and quasi-mindless, with lots of CGI, fab locations, fast action.... I wasn't bored for a moment, and neither was Mom.  I think it could be a winner, if the critics would get off their high horses and be able to appreciate entertainment.  No, it's neither deep nor artistically exquisite, but it's a fun summer movie.  At the end I was thinking that maybe Cruise wanted to make another Mission Impossible flick, but wasn't able to get that together so instead they made this, which is sort of like Mission Impossible without the MI overlay.
