Inception
I saw Christopher Nolan's new film, "Inception," this evening. It has received mixed reviews from the press, but the audience reception has been strong, with an excellent opening weekend. The 7 pm show I attended at the Battery Park Regal Cinema in Manhattan was well attended for a Thursday night show at a theater that is showing the film in three different theaters with staggered starting times.
Forewarned by the reviews, I didn't invest much effort in trying to figure out how everything was happening. This movie worked very well for me based on accepting the general plot premise -- that Leo DeCaprio and his merry band have the ability to penetrate and consciously carry out activities in other people's dreams --and then just going with the flow without trying to think too hard about what levels of dreaming were involved in particular scenes. I have a feeling this is what people are generally doing. The excellent cast leads one along quite nicely, the pacing is swift, the special effects spectacular, and the ending a stunner that left the audience walking out buzzing. What more could one ask for? More plot coherence? Why? After all, this is a summer entertainment action film, not an epic...
